We set off from London in our Wicked Camper at the start of July and were so excited about our big trip. Five girls and a van packed full of ‘essentials’ and we were on the road. We headed down to Pamplona for the Running of the Bulls and some serious fun meeting all our other fellow vantour mates mainly from Aussie and New Zealand. These guys were to be our mates for the next 3 months and some, for life. The campsites with all the vans was a blast. A continuous party and good times all around. After Pamplona, we headed to Lisbon, Portugal for a massive music festival then down to Lagos where we reunited with all the vans again to party some more on the beautiful beaches of Lagos during the day and then party in the streets at night. From there we drove along the south coast of Spain on our way to Valencia, a quick couple of nights in Ibiza and Barcelona. We made our way up the fabulous French Riviera and across the top of Italy where we were lucky enough to meet the gourgous Olympic Italian kayak team!! We next moved onto Croatia for a 7 day sailing trip around the islands-such a brilliant place and definatly on the list to revist in the future. Montenegro was next where we visited the Durmitor National park and did a massive 12hour trek up Bobotuv Kuk Mountain. We spent over a week in Greece visiting Paros, Santorini and Ios in the Greek Islands and even managed to climb Mount Olympus on our trip north heading out of Greece into Bulgaria. We covered so much of Eastern Europe which was such an awesome place to go… and so cheap!! We visited Sofia in Bulgaria, Transylvania in Romania and Budapest in Hungary. We spent time in Vienna and Salzburg in Austria before reuniting with all the vans again in Munich for the well awaited Ocktoberfest!!!
In Munich we stayed at the 1 star ‘free camp’, which isn’t actually free, where all vantour members park there vans for the 5 days of the glorious beerfest. We all had such an amazing time. Everyone was so jolly at beerfest and you couldn’t help but have a fun time. Beerfest was the ‘official’ end to vantour and after that people slowly made there way back to London, mainly because funds were running low and ones liver was working on overdrive!!. We were extra keen and kept on for another 3 weeks after Munich and visited Krakow, Austwitz and Wroclaw in Poland before celebrating my birthday in Berlin. We drove down the beautiful Mossel River Valley in Germany and into Paris for our last stop. The dream of vantour was finally coming to an end and the thought of reality was setting in. Back to London to work and revamp our bank accounts. Vantour was amazing. ‘Living the dream’ as we all said. Hiring a wicked camper was the best thing for us girls. Basically everthing was handed to us on a platter and all we had to do was drive!! Anyone wanting to see Europe on a budget, meet great friends and have a blast should definitley look into Vantour 2009!! You’ll have no regrets!!!
